About:

Dr. Patrick Poquiz is a board certified internist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, practicing as a hospitalist for UCLA Health. His primary clinical practice is with the North Valley Greater Los Angeles area where he manages UCLA patients admitted to smaller, community hospitals, allowing for continuity of care and providing best practices within the health system. As a hospitalist, he serves as the attending physician on a multidisciplinary team managing both uncomplicated and complex cases during a patient's hospitalization before transitioning care back to the outpatient primary care physician upon discharge from the hospital.

A lifelong Southern Californian, Dr. Poquiz completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, San Diego prior to starting his medical education at the Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 2009. After obtaining his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2013, he moved to Los Angeles where he did his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, where his training widely ranged from outpatient chronic condition management in the underserved community to rare and complex critically-ill cases at a quaternary care academic hospital. Since finishing residency in 2016 he has continued his academic endeavors as an educator and clinician with UCLA Health and is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor in Medicine for the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Committed to medical excellence and the progress of scientific knowledge for patient-centered care, he is also an active member and Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Although trained and practicing under a distinguished academic institution, Dr. Poquiz's clinical passion lies within serving the community and underserved populations. Not only does he enjoy educating the future physicians of medicine, but he also finds gratification in improving health literacy for all his patients. His goal is to help patients understand their medical ailments to a level they can understand its pathophysiology and the evidence-based medicine utilized to treat and manage their illness.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Poquiz enjoys time spent with his family and friends. He has an affinity towards food and travel, particularly with restaurants ranging from mom & pop shops to Michelin-awarded cuisines, and international travel involving several countries in Europe and Asia.
